Located immediately south east of Cognac, the Grande Champagne or king Growth (the premier Cru) covers 25 parishes representing note quite one thirtieth of the region. It is here that the Guerbé vineyards are to be found.

Only those Eaux de vie deriving from wines of grapes harvested in these parishes have the right to the Appellation of Grande Champagne.

Cognac, the Eaux de vie des Charentes is produced by the distillation (charentaise method) of natural wines deriving from white grapes harvested in the viticultural region of cognac.
The region covers almost all of the Department of Charentes Maritime and most of Charente, and is divided into six growing areas, called growths, or « Cru » which in order of quality are

1 :La GRANDE CHAMPAGNE
2 :La Petite Champagne
3 :Les Borderies
4 :Les Fins Bois
5 :Les Bons Bois
6 :Les Bois Ordinaires
